Introduction
The International Journal of Education Sciences (ijes) is committed to ensuring the long-term preservation and accessibility of all published content.
Digital Preservation
- Permanent Archiving: All published articles and supplementary materials are permanently archived to safeguard scholarly content against data loss, technological change, or other risks. This includes maintaining accessible and secure copies of all content.
- Multiple Locations: Digital copies of published works are stored in multiple geographically distributed repositories and servers to ensure redundancy and resilience.
- Backups: Regular backups of the journal website and database are conducted to further ensure content safety. In case of technical failure or loss, these backups will enable content restoration.
Indexing and Discoverability
Published articles are indexed in multiple scholarly databases (e.g., Google Scholar, DOAJ, Crossref) and assigned permanent Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to ensure that content remains discoverable and citable, even if website structures or URLs change.
Self-Archiving Policy
- Restrictions on Self-Archiving: As ijes requires a full copyright transfer from authors before publication, authors are not permitted to store, deposit, or publish the final published version (PDF), preprints, or any other version of their articles on institutional repositories, subject-specific archives, personal websites, or any other third-party platforms or storage services.
- Authorized Distribution Only: The only official and allowed versions of ijes articles reside on the journal’s website and on official archiving platforms and repositories designated by ijes or its publisher.
- Citation Guidance: Authors and third parties wishing to share published work should reference the official DOI or stable URL provided by ijes, ensuring that all access and use are directed to the versions maintained and archived by the journal.
Commitment to Open Access and Accessibility
- ijes publishes under a hybrid open-access model and ensures that all open-access content remains freely available. Even in the event of website unavailability or technical changes, access to the published record is maintained through trusted third-party archives and DOI services.
- Article metadata, abstracts, and references are always publicly accessible to maximize visibility and academic impact.
Restoration & Continuity
- In the event of platform migration, publisher change, or other disruptions, all content and metadata will be transferred to secure new platforms to avoid loss of access to published research.
- The editorial office will notify researchers about archiving arrangements and provide direct support in case of access issues.
Data Retention & Integrity
- All submitted and published materials, including supplementary files, are preserved in compliance with industry standards for data security, privacy, and integrity.
- Retractions or corrections are marked and permanently linked to the affected publications to maintain the transparency and trustworthiness of the scholarly record.
Use of Recognized Archiving Services
Trusted Third-party Archives: ijes partners with recognized digital preservation services such as Advanced Science Index (ASI), Citefactor, Scientific Literature (SCILIT), and Google Scholar to ensure permanent preservation and access, even if the journal or publisher ceases to operate. These networks are geographically distributed, providing additional security against loss and ensuring compliance with global preservation standards.
File Format and Migration Strategies
- Formats: All archived content is stored in reliable, open, and non-proprietary formats (e.g., PDF/A, XML) to guarantee accessibility across evolving technologies.
- Format Migration: Regular reviews are conducted to identify and migrate content to newer formats as technologies advance, preventing digital obsolescence and ensuring long-term usability.
Metadata Enrichment
Rich Metadata: All archived articles include comprehensive metadata—such as author details, publication date, keywords, abstracts, and DOIs—to enhance discoverability, interoperability, and citation across platforms.
Editorial Responsibility and Oversight
Editorial Board Oversight: The editorial board is responsible for overseeing the archiving process, conducting periodic reviews to ensure compliance with best practices and international standards.
Legal and Ethical Compliance
- Copyright and Licensing: Archiving practices fully respect copyright laws and licensing agreements, including Creative Commons. Authors retain key rights and may distribute or archive their work across additional platforms, fostering ethical open access.
- Data Privacy: The policy complies with national and international data protection laws, ensuring author and user privacy.
Management of Journal Closure
Post-publication Accessibility: Should ijes be discontinued, the full archive of published materials will remain openly accessible for at least ten years via the journal website and associated archiving services. Third-party archives (like LOCKSS/CLOCKSS) will provide continued availability beyond this period.
Institutional Collaboration
Institutional and Library Repositories: ijes collaborates with academic libraries and institutional repositories to broaden the reach, discoverability, and redundancy of its archival content.
Regular Policy Updates
Continuous Improvement: This archiving policy undergoes periodic review and updates to reflect emerging technologies, evolving industry standards, and stakeholder feedback, thereby ensuring that preservation efforts remain state-of-the-art.
Contingency and Disaster Recovery
Redundancy and Recovery Protocols: Multiple redundant backups are stored across different secure locations, with clearly defined disaster recovery procedures to restore access within 24–36 hours following a technical failure
