Amniocentesis: Purpose and Risks

Abstract Submission Deadline : 30/11/2023

Manuscript Submission Deadline : 25/12/2023

Special Issue Description

Amniocentesis is a test that may be recommended to you during pregnancy to determine whether your unborn child has a chromosomal or genetic disorder like Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome, or Patau’s syndrome. Your healthcare practitioner will do an amniocentesis during which they will take a small sample of amniotic fluid from the sac around the fetus. The fluid sample is then examined in a lab. Polyhydramnios is sometimes treated by amniocentesis (when you have too much amniotic fluid). Amniocentesis is a procedure used by doctors to drain extra fluid. Between 15 and 20 weeks of gestation, the majority of amniocentesis operations are performed (during the second trimester of pregnancy). The dangers of an amniocentesis earlier in pregnancy include miscarriage. Amniocentesis techniques in general are safe. But there are minor but significant dangers associated with amniocentesis for both you and the fetus, such as Cramping, bleeding or amniotic fluid leakage, a wound or an infection, and pregnancy loss. We invite you to submit your research findings for this special issue, which is primarily focused on delivery, pregnancy, and fetal development for the international journal of obstetrics, perinatal and neonatal Nursing.
