Abstract
Transnational education refers to learners or students accessing educational programs and services and gaining knowledge across different countries or awarding institutions. Bibliometric analysis, a quantitative research technique, was applied in this study to investigate the various goals methodically. This research paper examines transnational education, cross-border education, and intranational schooling, drawing on 534 articles retrieved from Scopus between 2001 and 2026. Bibliographic data were collected using relevant TNE-related keywords and analysed using Biblioshiny. For further data analysis, RStudio and Excel were used. The study examines trends in annual scientific production, leading authors, prominent journals, authorship patterns, influential references, international collaboration, and country-wise research output. Lotka’s Law and Bradford’s Law were also applied to assess author productivity and the distribution of publications across journals. The findings show that research output reached its highest level in 2025, followed by a slight decline in 2026. A study on the growth of literature in TNE between 1972 and 2023 found remarkable growth of literature from the 2010s onwards. where Bunnell T, Poole A, Wilkins S, Leung mwh, Waters JI, et are the most active author. Leading publishers included Sage, Taylor & Francis, Springer Nature, and Elsevier, with several influential works contributing to the development of TNE scholarship. The study reveals substantial collaboration among countries such as the UK, China, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, the US, Canada, and Malaysia. This study contributes to the existing literature by mapping the bibliometric analysis of transnational education research between 2001 and 2026. Overall, the study provides a clear overview of the growth, collaboration patterns, and knowledge structure of TNE research and highlights emerging directions for future studies.
