Abstract
Leadership plays a vital role in determining organizational effectiveness, particularly through its influence on decision-making processes. Effective decision-making is a fundamental managerial function that shapes organizational performance, strategic direction, and long-term sustainability. Leadership style, defined as the consistent pattern of behaviors adopted by leaders to influence and guide followers, significantly affects how decisions are formulated, communicated, and implemented within organizations. This conceptual paper examines the impact of three classical leadership styles—autocratic, democratic, and laissez-faire on decision-making effectiveness through a comprehensive review of existing theoretical and empirical literature. The study adopted qualitative conceptual research design using secondary sources, which integrates the existing views about leadership behavior and decision making in the organization. The analysis reveals that autocratic leadership facilitates rapid decision-making and strong control, making it suitable for crisis situations, although it limits employee participation and creativity. Democratic leadership promotes collaboration, employee engagement, and higher-quality decisions by incorporating diverse perspectives; however, it may delay decision-making in time-sensitive situations. Laissez-faire leadership encourages autonomy, flexibility, and innovation among competent employees but may result in ambiguity, poor coordination, and inconsistent outcomes due to limited guidance. The results indicate that there is no “right” leadership style for every situation in an organization. Instead, effective leadership requires a situational approach in which leaders adapt their style according to organizational objectives, task complexity, environmental conditions, and employee competence. The study contributes to the theoretical understanding of the relationship between leadership styles and decision-making while providing practical implications for managers and organizational leaders seeking to enhance decision quality, employee participation, and overall organizational effectiveness.
