Abstract

The growing integration of renewable energy sources within the electrical distribution systems has greatly altered the working dynamics of the contemporary power grids. The introduction of intermittent and nonlinear sources (solar photovoltaic and wind energy systems) leads to a wide range of power quality disturbances, however. The current paper includes the in-depth examination of the problem of power quality in the distribution systems with the integration of renewable energy. The main disturbances investigated are voltage sag and swell, harmonic distortion, flicker, frequency variation and unbalance conditions. The inconsistency of renewable production, along with power electronic interfaces, is cited as a significant factor of these upheavals. It is discussed in the paper that analytical and simulation-based methods of evaluating power quality are reviewed and the importance of advanced monitoring techniques is emphasized. In addition, mitigation measures like active power filters, purpose-built power devices and smart control mechanisms are also addressed. The discussion highlights the need to have coordinated control and strong system design in order to ensure grid stability and reliability. The results are very useful to researchers and engineers to come up with effective solutions of enhancing the quality of power in renewable integrated distribution networks. The research highlights how new smart grid technologies and real-time data analysis can enhance power quality management and strengthen system resilience.
