Article Sharing

Last updated: 2022-04-30

At STM, we value the dissemination of scholarly knowledge while upholding the integrity of publishing standards. As an author, you are granted access to a watermarked author copy of your published article for personal use. Please review the following article sharing policy carefully.

Sharing Options

  • Author Copy – Personal Reference Only: Authors receive a watermarked author copy, not the final formatted PDF hosted on the journal’s website. This version is provided exclusively for non-commercial, personal reference. To access or download the official PDF, a subscription or individual article purchase is required. Authors may also access it through institutional login or personal subscription.
  • Public Sharing Restrictions: Do not share the full article (including the author copy) on: Social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, ResearchGate, etc.) Public websites, forums, or academic networks, Institutional or personal repositories. Instead, share the DOI or official journal link to direct readers to the publisher’s site.
  • Individual Requests Only: Mass distribution via email or uploads to cloud storage/public platforms is not permitted. If an individual requests access, provide the official article link or recommend access through their institutional subscription.
  • Media & Press Involvement: Articles with potential media interest must be handled carefully. Do not contact media outlets directly. All press inquiries or news releases must be pre-approved by the journal's editorial or publishing team.
  • Blogging and Online Summaries: Substantial reproduction of content (text, figures, tables, etc.) in blogs or summaries is not allowed without prior written permission. Authors may refer to their research and cite it but should refrain from sharing internal content without approval.
  • Conference & Seminar Presentations: You may present your findings at academic events. Full-text distribution is not allowed. Use summarized content or excerpted visuals, and cite the publication clearly.
  • Altmetrics and Public Attention: Sharing limitations may result in lower online attention scores (Altmetric indicators). Formal academic impact (citations via Scopus, Google Scholar, etc.) remains unaffected.
  • Copyright and License Compliance: The author copy is shared under a limited-use license. Unauthorized distribution, hosting, or commercial use is strictly prohibited. Violations may result in legal action or retraction of the article.
For permissions, clarifications, or press queries, please contact the journal’s editorial office at [email protected].

Remember, it is important to follow copyright and licensing agreements when sharing and promoting your research. Be sure to check the policies of the journal and any other organizations involved in the publication of your article.

Open Access Option

Open access options provide readers with unrestricted access to the articles published in a journal without requiring a subscription or payment. It increases the visibility and impact of the research and is an important aspect of scholarly communication. Here are some points and paragraphs on sharing by open access options:

  • Benefits of Open Access: Open access promotes the dissemination of research and increases its visibility and accessibility. It can lead to more citations, wider dissemination, and greater collaboration among researchers. Open access also allows the public to benefit from research, particularly in fields such as medicine and health.
  • Types of Open Access: There are two main types of open access: green and gold. Green open access refers to articles that are made available through institutional repositories or other websites, while gold open access articles are published in an open access journal.
  • Open Access Policy: Journals may have different open access policies. It is important for authors to familiarize themselves with the journal's policies before submitting their articles. Some journals may offer immediate open access, while others may have an embargo period before the article is made available.
  • Creative Commons License: Authors can retain the copyright of their articles while still allowing others to share and reuse their work under certain conditions. This is done through a Creative Commons license, which specifies the conditions under which the article can be shared or reused.
  • Article Processing Charges: Many open access journals charge authors a fee for publishing their articles. This fee is called an article processing charge (APC). Authors should be aware of the APC before submitting their articles to open access journals.
  • Open Access Repositories: In addition to publishing in open access journals, authors can also share their articles in open access repositories such as arXiv, PubMed Central, and others. This allows for wider dissemination of research and increases its accessibility.
  • Sharing by Social Media: Authors can also share their articles through social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. This can help increase the visibility and impact of their research.

Article Promotion

Promoting an article is an essential part of academic publishing, as it helps to increase the visibility and impact of the research. Here are some tips and strategies for promoting an article:

  • Share on social media: Share the article on social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and ResearchGate. This will help to reach a wider audience, including researchers and professionals in the field.

  • Submit to relevant repositories: Submit the article to relevant repositories such as arXiv, PubMed Central, or other open-access databases. This will make the article more accessible to readers and increase its visibility.
  • Participate in conferences: Presenting the article at conferences or symposia is a great way to gain exposure and engage with other researchers in the field. Consider submitting an abstract or proposal to relevant conferences.
  • Collaborate with the media: Reach out to journalists or media outlets that cover topics related to the article. This can help to increase the article's visibility and impact outside of academic circles.
  • Utilize altmetrics: Use altmetrics tools such as Impactstory, Altmetric, or PlumX to track the article's impact and engagement on social media, news outlets, and other online platforms.
  • Engage with readers: Respond to comments and questions from readers on the article's publication platform or social media. This can help to build relationships with other researchers and potentially lead to future collaborations.
