Abstract
Sustainable Development Goal 14 – Life below Water – calls us to protect and restore our oceans. It is a guarantee to eliminate pollution, encourage sustainable fishing practices, and create marine conservation zones. By prioritizing ocean health, we safeguard biodiversity and the livelihoods of billions, ensuring oceans continue to support life, inspire wonder, and sustain our planet for future generations. Covering over 70% of our planet, oceans support 80% of life on Earth and are vital to our climate, economy, and global food security. Coastal areas alone contribute trillions to the global economy, yet our oceans face grave threats. Pollution, overfishing, and climate change are rapidly degrading these ecosystems, from coral reefs to deep-sea habitats, putting countless species- and humanity-at-risk.
Keywords: Ocean conservation, marine protection, sustainable fishing, aquaculture biodiversity, marine pollution, climate change, ocean acidification, coastal management, ecosystem restoration
