Abstract
This research survey synthesizes seven supplied research papers covering interconnected applications of Internet of Things (IoT), renewable-energy-powered sensing, battery management, smart agriculture, battery thermal management, and intelligent environmental monitoring. The literature ranges from a 2017 IoT battery monitoring system for smart microgrids to recent 2026 studies on cloud-integrated battery management, solar-assisted IoT energy harvesting, off-grid irrigation, large-scale sugarcane monitoring, nano-enabled mining environmental sensing, and IoT–machine-learning-assisted phase-change-material (PCM) thermal management. Across the papers, a common research direction is the movement from isolated sensing toward integrated systems that combine sensors, communication networks, cloud or edge computing, energy management, machine learning, and automated or remotely supervised decisions. The survey identifies seven major topics: IoT battery monitoring in smart microgrids; cloud-integrated battery management and SOC/SOH prediction; solar-based battery-assisted energy harvesting for autonomous IoT; energy-optimized off-grid smart irrigation; multi-sensor IoT monitoring for large- scale sugarcane; IoT–ML-assisted PCM battery thermal management; and nanoparticle-enabled IoT environmental monitoring in mining. The reviewed evidence also highlights recurring limitations, including energy intermittency, communication reliability, sensor drift, cybersecurity, scalability, lifecycle impacts, and the need for longer and broader field validation. Overall, the papers indicate that future IoT systems will increasingly depend on energy-aware, predictive, secure, and application- specific architectures.
