Abstract

The modernization of power systems has led to the development of smart grids, integrating advanced communication and control technologies. This study presents an Internet of Things (IoT)- based smart grid monitoring and fault detection system. The proposed system includes sensors, microcontrollers, and cloud platforms that will be used to monitor the parameters of the grid, including voltage, current and frequency. Fault detection is achieved through threshold based and data analytics techniques. The system ensures quick fault identification, improved reliability, and efficient energy management. Experiments have demonstrated the efficacy of the suggested method in defect detection and real-time monitoring. In order to minimize service disruptions and prevent equipment damage, the increasing complexity of contemporary power networks need constant monitoring and quick detection of abnormal operating circumstances. The efficacy of fault management may be diminished by conventional monitoring techniques’ potential for delayed data gathering and restricted remote accessibility. The suggested system creates a networked monitoring framework that permits real-time electrical parameter acquisition, processing, and transmission in order to overcome these difficulties. Sensor nodes gather pertinent grid data and send the measured data to the cloud platform and processing unit for centralised analysis. By comparing measured values with predetermined operating limits and examining pertinent data patterns, abnormal parameter fluctuations are found. In addition to supporting remote supervision and fast defect alarms, the system helps operators make well-informed maintenance decisions.
