Abstract

Dandruff is a common scalp ailment caused by the yeast Pityrosporum that affects the majority of people. The condition of dandruff cannot be entirely removed; rather, it can only be efficiently managed and maintained. The three most typical signs of dandruff are particles on the scalp, scalp itching, and redness near the scalp. There are two approaches to treating dandruff. These anti- dandruff shampoos include chemical-based anti-dandruff shampoos and herbal-based anti-dandruff shampoos that include antibacterial and antifungal chemicals such as ketaconazole, sulphur dioxide, zinc pyrithione, and other similar substances. Hair loss, increased scaling, itching, irritation, nausea, headache, vomiting, and photosensitivity are all possible side effects of anti-dandruff shampoos, which not only slow down the peeling of the scalp but also have their own risks. Formulations made from herbal extracts are a feasible alternative to manufactured medications. There are now a large number of herbal shampoos on the market, and many contain herbal ingredients like plant herbal extracts. In this review, we will address the causes of dandruff, as well as synthetic chemicals, different herbs, and the assessment factors for anti-dandruff shampoo and conditioner.
