        Special Issue Description

The common benefits of NIR spectroscopy perfectly complement the ongoing downsizing of spectrometers. The combination of portability and direct on-site application with a high-throughput and non-invasive manner of analysis is a significant benefit in a variety of industries. In comparison to tabletop spectrometers, the performance, application, and method optimization of compact NIR sensors are noted. The flexibility of the analysis is greatly increased by these devices, although their performance in varied analytical contexts is affected by several aspects. The systematic evaluation of the accuracy and dependability of several tiny spectrometers based on diverse technologies, such as the Fourier transform (FT)-NIR, the micro-opto electro-mechanical system (MOEMS) Hadamard mask, or the linear variable filter (LVF) coupled with array detector, is a concentrated area of research at the moment. As technology develops, new data-analytical techniques are added to the package of a micro-NIR analytical approach to increase its precision, dependability, and application. Advanced calibration techniques (such as nonlinear regression and artificial neural networks, for example) balance the accuracy of these instruments with laboratory spectrometers while directly enhancing the performance of tiny instruments in difficult analysis. The relative sensitivity found between various equipment, in particular, NIR bands can be understood through the use of two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2D-COS). The information gained from the NIR spectra is finally improved by the quantum mechanical simulation of NIR spectra, which exposes the wavenumber areas with the best correlated spectral information and reveals the interactions of the target analyte with the surrounding matrix.

        Manuscript Submission information

Manuscripts should be submitted online by registering and logging in to this link. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed.
Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent on email address:[email protected] for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page.
