        Special Issue Description

        A novel transmission method for quick and flexible data transmissions is called multicode CDMA. The fundamental principle of multicode CDMA is to give each user a different set of channelization codes. In an AWGN channel, the self-interference among these channel codes can be removed if they are orthogonal. These intra-user signals from various delay pathways, however, no longer retain orthogonality in a multipath environment and as a result interfere with one another, resulting in multicode interference (MCI).In high-speed data networks, where the number of users is much less than in voice networks, the MCI may represent a large portion of the total interference and has a great impact on the system performance. In this chapter, a complex spreading multicode wideband CDMA receiver with RAKE structure and MCI cancellation is studied. By pilot-aided channel estimation, the MCI associated with the reference user is regenerated and subtracted from the received signal. A third-generation (3G) standard called Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) uses frequency-division duplexing (FDD) and direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) channel access methods to deliver high-speed and high-capacity service. The most popular version of the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System is WCDMA (UMTS). It was created by NTT DoCoMo, a Japanese company, and served as the foundation for their Freedom of Multimedia Access (FOMA) 3G Network.
