        Special Issue Description

The use of this technology raises ethical concerns, some of which are related to animal welfare, which is defined by the World Organisation for Animal Health as “the state of the animal, how an animal is coping with the conditions in which it lives.” The genetic engineering of animals has increased significantly in recent years. To make sure that all parties are aware of the ethical concerns at stake and can contribute meaningfully to the present discussion on the development and use of genetically modified animals, these problems need to be taken into account by all stakeholders, including veterinarians. Additionally, it is crucial to attempt to represent societal values in scientific practice and new technology, particularly in publicly financed initiatives that aim to benefit society but may be regarded as ethically dubious. Due to the additional difficulties that genetically modified animals provide, governing authorities have begun to create pertinent laws, frequently urging enhanced attention and monitoring of potential effects on animal welfare. When novel genetically modified animal strains are being generated in the context of research, veterinarians can play a crucial role in carrying out this monitoring.
