        Special Issue Description

Tumors that develop in or near the eyes are the subject of ocular oncology research and treatment. These tumors may result in vision loss or the loss of the eye itself and can range from being completely benign to potentially fatal. For all patients with eye tumors, whether or not they are malignant, the initial step in receiving medical therapy is an ocular oncology consultation, also referred to as an ophthalmic oncology consultation. Obtaining a diagnosis and a list of potential treatments is the aim of the consultation. The Ocular Oncology Service was founded in 2001 to give patients with ocular cancer the most recent treatment in a compassionate and encouraging environment. Biopsies, excision of eyelid tumors, reconstructive surgery on the eyelids, and examination and treatment of orbital tumors, Retinoblastoma, and Ocular Melanoma are all handled by oculoplastics specialists.
