        Special Issue Description

A relatively recent branch of research called psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) examines how your immune system and central nervous system (CNS) interact. Although our CNS and immune system can communicate with one another, researchers have only just begun to comprehend how this interaction works and what it means for our health. Your central nervous system (CNS) is made up of the nerves in your brain and spinal cord, whereas your immune system is composed of cells and organs that protect your body against infection. Small chemicals and proteins that can serve as messengers between the two systems are produced by both systems. These messengers in your CNS include hormones and neurotransmitters. Contrarily, your immune system communicates with your central nervous system (CNS) using proteins known as cytokines. The idea that the mind and body are inextricably linked is the fundamental tenet of psychoneuroimmunology. Thus, stress has an impact on the body’s capacity to fend off illness.
