        Special Issue Description

        Neuropsychiatry is a branch of science and medicine that specializes in the treatment of people with neurologically based disorders as well as the integrated research of psychiatric and neurological conditions. The goal of neuropsychiatry is to bridge the gap between neurology and psychiatry, which may be seen in the difference between a psychiatrist’s focus on a disorder’s phenomenology and genetic underpinnings and a neurologist’s search for the disorder’s underlying neuroanatomical basis. Apathy, sadness, sleep issues, hallucinations, delusions, psychosis, agitation, and violence are incredibly common neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS). Clinical neuropsychologists receive specialized training in neurology, which includes studying the biological processes affecting the brain, nervous system, neurons, neuroanatomy, and functional brain systems. A neuropsychologist is typically consulted when a patient complains of symptoms like memory loss, difficulties with thinking, concentrating, or reasoning, or modifications in personality, coordination, awareness, perception, or language production/comprehension. Neuropsychologists frequently conduct tests to assess mood, personality, emotion, and behavior in addition to cognitive function. An individual’s functioning in terms of mental health is relevant and taken into consideration during a neuropsychological evaluation since neuropsychologists are interested in the interaction between neurology and psychology. The reasons for problems with the brain or how it functions may be neurological, psychological, or medical, and they occasionally have more than one etiology. Therefore, neuropsychologists must conduct a complete evaluation of a person’s personality, mood, and current functioning.
