        Special Issue Description

        Reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and defensive mechanisms are thought to be out of balance under conditions of oxidative stress, which can result in chronic inflammation. The main causes of age-related chronic diseases and cancer include a poor lifestyle and ingesting harmful chemicals from the environment. Their research covers oxidative stress and inflammatory pathophysiology, lifestyle, therapy, and prevention. The body regularly produces a small quantity of ROS, which are crucial substances involved in the regulation of activities that can preserve cell homeostasis and functionality (signal transduction, gene expression, and activation of receptors). This imbalance may lead to oxidative stress, which can result in gene mutation, inflammation, lipid peroxidation, and other problems. Only antioxidant/anti-inflammatory compounds, which can be either synthetic or natural, can combat the harmful oxidative activity of ROS. However, these compounds frequently suffer from several stability problems that limit theirs in vivo activities, such as poor water solubility and low bioavailability. In addition to chemical compounds of synthetic or natural origin, vitamins, peptides, micronutrients, non-starch polysaccharides, probiotics, postbiotics, and prebiotics formulations containing functional foods or nutraceuticals, the research papers on this topic are anticipated to provide an overview of the state of research on both natural and synthetic products with antioxidant properties and capable of preventing inflammatory diseases.
