        Special Issue Description

One aspect of corporate social responsibility is environmental protection, and there has long been discussion regarding the relationship between corporate environmental protection efforts and how such efforts affect business operations. Companies are paying more and more attention to the issue of carbon emissions, and many of them see cutting carbon emissions as both an essential part of their ongoing operations and a necessary step they must take to safeguard the environment. According to Article 17 of the Kyoto Protocol, emissions trading enables countries that have emission units to spare emissions that are permitted but not “used” to sell this extra capacity to nations that are exceeding their targets. Emission reductions or removals become a new commodity as a result. Since carbon dioxide is the main greenhouse gas, carbon trading is commonly used. Today, carbon is tracked and sold similarly to other commodities.
