        Special Issue Description

The promotion and support of breastfeeding is an integral part of the role of the midwife. Studies have shown that the support of midwives for breastfeeding in maternity wards has a positive impact on the breastfeeding experiences of mothers. Individuals of a social arrangement are related to the introductory choice to breastfeed and with breastfeeding terms. There are some aspects of the role of a midwife that can create challenges and conflict for them. Promoting breastfeeding can create tension between giving women a choice and what midwives perceive as coercion. The conflict between evidence-based practice and personal experiences can undermine midwives’ support for breastfeeding mothers. Midwives can overcome this conflict by gaining more knowledge about breastfeeding, learning how to communicate effectively, and reflecting on their own experiences. Mothers advantage from methodologies that energize breastfeeding, with the direction that underpins their self-efficacy and sentiments of being competent and engaged.
