Special Issue Description

In the treatment of cancer, radiation therapy (RT) is very much a technology-driven technique. Thanks to recent developments in engineering and computers, it is now more effective, has fewer side effects, and has wider ramifications. By highlighting these technological and biological advancements, we hope to draw attention to recent achievements in radiation oncology. These innovations include intensity-modulated radiation therapy, stereotactic radiotherapy, brachytherapy, radioimmunotherapy, and three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy. Each of these techniques has enhanced radiation targeting, reducing the amount of radiation that reaches healthy tissues. The vital function that imaging plays throughout the entire process will receive special attention. When it comes to adaptive radiation therapy, multimodality imaging that incorporates morphological, functional, and metabolic data is the essential foundation for the accurate identification of target volumes as well as the monitoring of tumor response/modification during treatment. Additionally, to account for tumor movements brought on by respiration, breathing adaptive approaches require real-time imaging of the tumor. The current special issue invites articles on cutting-edge radiation therapy methods using photon beams, such as intensity-modulated RT, volumetric-modulated arc therapy, stereotactic body RT, and adaptive RT, which enable a highly customized dose distribution with the greatest possible preservation of normal tissue. The special issue also focuses on every phase of the therapy process, including imaging, defining the tumor and organs at risk, planning the treatment, and, lastly, image guidance for precise tumor localization both before and after treatment administration. This issue aims to analyze the most recent biological developments in tumor targeting. Technological advancements and the use of radiobiological information to create more effective and individualized treatment techniques have both increased the effectiveness of RT.

Manuscript Submission information

Manuscripts should be submitted online via the manuscript Engine. Once you register on APID, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline.
All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the email address:[email protected] for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a Double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for the submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page.
