Special Issue Description

Planning for energy systems naturally includes investing in a variety of energy technologies to lower GHG emissions as well as other environmental effects while only slightly increasing the cost of the energy that is provided. There are many alternative definitions of energy planning, but the process of creating long-term plans to direct the future of a local, national, regional, or even global energy system is the one that is used most frequently. Large energy firms like electric utilities or oil and gas producers may also carry out energy planning, which is frequently done within governmental institutions. Energy policy refers to the way a certain institution (typically governmental) has chosen to handle issues relating to the development of energy, including energy conversion, distribution, and use as well as greenhouse gas emission reduction to help mitigate climate change. The characteristics of energy policy may include laws, international agreements, financial incentives, directives for energy conservation, taxation, and other tools of public policy. The foundation of contemporary economies is energy. Energy is needed for manufacturing operations, transportation, communications, agriculture, and other functions in a functioning economy in addition to labor and capital.
