Special Issue Description

When fossil fuels are burned to produce power and heat, they release a significant amount of greenhouse gases that cover the Earth and trap solar radiation. Fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and gas, account for more than 75% of all greenhouse gas emissions and almost 90% of all carbon dioxide emissions, making them by far the biggest cause of climate change in the world. By meeting more than 16% of the global energy demand, biomass and hydropower, two traditional renewable energy sources, significantly reduce CO2 emissions. They also have large expansion potential. At a relatively modest cost, increasing biomass can immediately help to absorb extra CO2. Of the “new” renewable energy sources, solar PV shows considerable potential to replace a significant portion of fossil fuels over the long term, while wind power is the cheapest source of electricity. Passive solar approaches also have enormous potential to conserve energy.

Manuscript Submission information

Manuscripts should be submitted online via the manuscript Engine. Once you register on APID, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline.
All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the email address:[email protected] for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a Double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for the submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page.
