Special Issue Description

Complement is a complex protein network in plasma that is an essential component of the innate immune system. Complement activation causes immune cells to rapidly clear bacteria and direct bacterial killing via large pore-forming complexes. Understanding the molecular interactions between complement and bacteria is critical for developing future treatments for infectious and inflammatory diseases. Antibodies that support complement-dependent bacterial killing are of interest in the development of alternative therapies for antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections. Several novel therapeutic complement inhibitors have also been developed to prevent unwanted complement activation in autoimmune inflammatory diseases. A better understanding of how such inhibitors may increase the risk of bacterial infections is required if such therapies are to be successful.

Manuscripts should be submitted online via the manuscript Engine. Once you register on APID, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline.
All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the email address:[email protected] for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers).
