Special Issue Description

In general, the immune system has two defense mechanisms: innate immunity and adaptive immunity. Innate immunity is the first immunological, non-specific (antigen-independent) defense mechanism used to combat an invading pathogen. It is a quick immune response that occurs minutes or hours after aggression and has no immunologic memory. Adaptive immunity, on the other hand, is antigen-dependent and antigen-specific; it can remember, allowing the host to mount a more rapid and efficient immune response upon future antigen exposure. The adaptive immune system and its innate counterpart work in tandem and deficiencies in either system can result in illness or disease, such as autoimmune diseases, immunodeficiency disorders, and hypersensitivity reactions. This special issue invites articles on an overview of innate and adaptive immunity and how these host defense mechanisms are involved in both health and illness.

Manuscript Submission information

Manuscripts should be submitted online via the manuscript Engine. Once you register on APID, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline.
All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the email address:[email protected] for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers).
