Abstract
Electrical poles play a significant role in the generation and distribution of electric power; however, these poles are vulnerable to numerous electrical and environmental hazards, including leakage current, overheating, smoke, heavy rain, or tilting. If these issues are not addressed immediately, they can lead to electrical hazards, load shedding, property damage, and even loss of human life. To resolve such concerns, this project introduces a new concept of a Smart Electric Pole Safety Device with Hazard Prediction to monitor and predict poles’ status with real-time hazard warnings. The proposed device consists of a microcontroller, ESP32, and several sensors, namely, current sensor, temperature and smoke sensor, rain detector, and tilt sensor. The first step in this system involves registering and accessing sensor data through the microcontroller. Next, the controller analyses the information and compares it against set thresholds to detect any inconsistencies or irregularities in the system. If the system detects a hazard, buzzer and LEDs (Light-Emitting Diode) will issue warning signals and flashes to alert the surrounding people. In addition, the system will display the information on an OLED (Organic Light- Emitting Diode) screen. The system will save data about the polarity of the current, temperature, and smoke in a Blynk IoT platform through an internet connection. This feature will help maintenance workers keep track of the status of the pole remotely and respond to hazards detected in time. The main goal of this project is to ensure public safety while at the same time reducing the risks associated with electrical hazards of electrical poles.
