Abstract

The critical advances in information and communications technology (ICT) over the last half-century have led to the increasingly common vision that computing will one day become the 5th utility. This computing utility will provide the essential level of computing service considered basic to meet the everyday needs of the general public. To convey this vision, a number of computing models have been proposed, with the most recent being cloud computing. Cloud computing promises to accelerate the delivery of applications, boost innovation, and reduce costs, all while enhancing business agility. It is the convergence and advancement of several concepts from virtualization, distributed application designs, networking, and enterprise IT management to enable a more flexible approach to delivering and scaling applications. Cloud computing has emerged as a transformative force in ICT, fundamentally reshaping how data is managed, stored, and processed. This paper explores the key advancements brought about by cloud computing, including enhanced flexibility and scalability, cost efficiency, and improved collaboration capabilities. The on-demand nature of cloud resources enables organizations to quickly adapt to changing needs while reducing IT expenses through a pay-as-you-go model. Additionally, cloud computing supports robust security measures and compliance with regulatory standards, thereby improving data protection.
