Abstract

nThe present study is a retrospective observational cohort study involving the usage of alkaline water as supportive therapy in the management of metabolic disorders. Patients were randomly selected on daily basis reviewed and followed up. Sixteen patients in the yelahanka Bangalore region who tested positive for diabetes mellitus, hypertension and thyroid disorders and were willing to participate were included in the study. Patients who weren’t willing to participate or who were HIV positive in psychiatry or pediatrics were excluded. The test group consisted of patients on anti-diabetic, antihypertensive and anti-thyroid medications with regular exercise along with supportive alkaline water therapy while the control group consisted of the patients on anti-diabetic, anti-hypertensive and antithyroid medications with regular exercise and consuming normal mineral water .Patient Data will be collected through medication therapy chart review and personal interview of patients. A total of sixteen patients were recruited for the present study. All the patients were analyzed for medication adherence and founded all were strictly adhered to their daily medication intake on time to time basis where five were founded that they have been scored average in adherence and timings varied during the medications intake, all were analyzed for symptomatic improvements and founded that symptoms improved without reporting any complications. five patients were reported with side effects during their alkaline water consumption like nausea, vomiting, mild stomach pain G.I.T disturbances with diarrhea and skin itching and one patient was founded with drawl of alkaline water consumption due to continuous skin irritation and itching, all the test group patients were compared with control group who are consuming normal mineral water and founded that the test group had a good symptomatic improvement when compared to control and quality of life has improved ,fifteen out of sixteen out of patients gave positive feedback on alkaline water usage.
