Abstract
The success of an individual hinges on several personal factors. In this age of globalization, where culture, science, economy and society are exchanged globally, emotional intelligence seems to be the missing currency. A person’s ability to handle emotions with wisdom is referred to as emotional intelligence. Those with emotional intelligence are guaranteed a positive simultaneity domestically, socially and professionally. Such individuals are better capable of managing their emotions and subsequently report improved productivity and diminished depression. Therefore, this study aims to assess the relationship between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction with middle school teachers working at selected high schools of Bagalkot.
Methodology: This was a descriptive cross-correlation study. By using simple random technique 3 high school was selected and disproportionate stratified random sampling technique was used to select the teachers from that high schools of Bagalkot. Socio demographic information of secondary school teachers was gathered using structured socio demographic profile and Schutte’s Self Report of Emotional Intelligence scale and Minnesota’s job satisfaction scale for assessing Emotional Intelligence & job satisfaction respectively. Data were analyzed in terms of objectives of the study.
Findings: Result indicates that majority of the secondary school teachers (59%) had good emotional intelligence, remaining 11percent of them had good emotional intelligence and 00 teachers had poor emotional intelligence. assessment of level of job satisfaction among secondary school teaches reveals that, majority of secondary school teachers (84.2%) had good job satisfaction. 15.74 percentage of the secondary school teachers had average job satisfaction and none of them had poor job satisfaction. The correlation coefficient (r) between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction among secondary school teachers is 0.988, indicating a very strong positive relationship. This suggests that as emotional intelligence increases, job satisfaction also tends to rise significantly.
Conclusion:
This study concluded that there was a positive correlation between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction among secondary school teachers, and that there was no significant association between one of the social demographic variables and emotional intelligence and job satisfaction among secondary school teachers.
