Abstract
Innate immunology represents the body’s first line of defense against pathogens, acting as a rapid, non-specific response to a wide array of microbial invaders. This part of the immune system depends on pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) to identify pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), leading to the activation of immune cells such as macrophages, dendritic cells, and neutrophils. The innate immune system also plays a crucial role in bridging the gap to adaptive immunity, facilitating the development of a more specific and long-term immune response. Additionally, recent studies have illuminated the complexity of innate immune regulation, uncovering its involvement in inflammatory diseases, tissue homeostasis, and even the modulation of cancer progression. This article reviews the key components and mechanisms of innate immunity, highlighting the importance of early immune responses, their contribution to disease, and the ongoing research into therapeutic interventions targeting innate immune pathways for improved health outcomes.
