Abstract
Hypoglycemia stands as a primary reason for visits to the Emergency Department (ED), ranking high among the most frequent and easily avoidable hormonal emergencies. The aim of this research is to investigate the occurrence of hypoglycemia and identify its underlying causes. As the number of diabetes cases rises, along with different methods of tightly managing blood sugar levels, the likelihood of hypoglycemia also increases. Given that extended periods of hypoglycemia can result in serious health issues and even death, it is crucial to accurately diagnose the cause of each hypoglycemic episode and implement preventive strategies. This study focuses on the medical histories of individuals who come to the Emergency Department of Bir Hospital, a part of the National Academy of Medical Science (NAMS), Bir Hospital in Mahaboudha, Kathmandu, Nepal, who are experiencing hypoglycemia. This study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of hypoglycemia cases presented at Bir Hospital by collecting data on patient demographics, medical history, and potential risk factors associated with hypoglycemic episodes. We will categorize the patients based on their underlying conditions, such as type 1 and type 2 diabetes, as well as other comorbidities that may contribute to the occurrence of hypoglycemia. Additionally, we will explore the impact of medication adherence, dietary habits, and lifestyle choices on blood glucose levels. Through a detailed examination of these factors, the research intends to identify trends and common causes of hypoglycemia in this population. Ultimately, our findings aim to inform clinical practices and enhance preventive measures to reduce the incidence of hypoglycemic emergencies in the community.
