Abstract
The research was conducted to determine effect of different types and rate of NPSB and CU fertilizers on yield of common bean at boloso sore woreda at rain-feid condition for two years (2016 & 2017) at Areka research center, located at an altitude of 1830 masl, latitude 07° 4’ 24’’ N, longitude 37° 41’ 30’’ E, temperature: 20.3° C, rainfall: 1200-1700 mm, soil type: Haplic alisol. A completely randomized block design (RCBD) was with six treatments replicated three times across farmers. The experiment had six treatments these were: T1: control (No fertilizer), T2 (NPSB: 69N, 54 P2O5,10S, 0.1B ); T3(NPSBCu:23N, 36 P2O5, 6.7S,0.71B + 0.4Cu ),T4(NPSBCU: 46N, 54 P2O5, 10S, 1.07B + 0.4 kg Cu),T5(NPSBCu: 69N, 72 P2O5,13S, 1.4B+0.4Cu) and T6 (NPSBCu: 92N, 90 P2O5, 17S, 1.7B + 0.4Cu). The plot size was 4m with 4m and spacing between row and plants were 40 and10 cm respectively. Common bean is the most responsive legume to fertilization if soil fertility is poor. At Boloso sore (Areka), it responded well to application of NPSB and NPSBCu when compared to untreated control. Excluding Cu from NPSBCu did not affect the yield of common bean. Therefore, from our current results it could be concluded and recommended that farmers at the study area can use NPSB @ the rate of 69, 54, 13, 1.4 kg ha-1 for production of common bean. Further research is needed to verify and demonstrate the effects and for wider use.
