Abstract

This work explores the viability of using slow pyrolysis to produce bio-char using rice straw as a feedstock. The objective is to characterize the resulting bio char and analyse the thermodynamic processes involved in its formation. Rice straw, an abundant agricultural residue, was subjected to slow pyrolysis under controlled conditions. The produced bio char was characterized using various analytical techniques, including scanning electron microscopy, elemental analysis, and surface area measurements. The results indicate that rice straw can be effectively converted into bio char with desirable properties, including high carbon content and porosity. Thermodynamic analysis reveals insights into the temperature-dependent processes during pyrolysis, shedding light on optimal conditions for bio char production. The study underscores the potential of rice straw as a sustainable and readily available feedstock for bio char, contributing to both waste management and soil improvement initiatives. The findings provide valuable information for optimizing pyrolysis parameters and advancing the understanding of the bio char production process. This research contributes to the broader goal of developing sustainable waste-to-resource strategies, emphasizing the importance of agricultural residues in bio char production. Further exploration of the agronomic and environmental benefits of the produced bio char is recommended for comprehensive assessment and practical applications.
