Abstract

The quality of school education is strongly influenced by the efficiency and vision of school management practices. In today’s rapidly changing educational landscape, schools are expected to perform responsibilities that extend beyond routine administration. They must ensure academic excellence, learner well-being, value- based education, inclusion, transparency, and accountability to parents and society. However, many schools still function through traditional management patterns that focus mainly on record-keeping, examination routines, and compliance with rules, leaving limited scope for innovation and continuous improvement. As a result, gaps are often observed in learning outcomes, teacher performance support, and overall institutional effectiveness. Innovation and quality assurance have therefore become essential pillars for improving school governance and educational outcomes. Innovation in school management refers to introducing new ideas, practices, and systems that enhance planning, leadership, decision-making, and the teaching-learning environment. Quality assurance, on the other hand, focuses on systematic monitoring, evaluation, feedback, and corrective actions to maintain and improve educational standards. The National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) provides a transformative vision for Indian education and emphasizes quality-based learning, competency development, professional leadership, school autonomy, and accountability through transparent and measurable processes. This research paper examines the importance of innovation and quality assurance in strengthening school management in Indian schools in the context of NEP 2020. The study adopts a descriptive and analytical research design based on secondary data sources such as policy documents, government reports, educational frameworks, and scholarly literature. The analysis indicates that effective leadership, participatory governance, teacher empowerment, technology-enabled administration, continuous professional development, and internal quality mechanisms play a critical role in improving academic results and institutional credibility. The study concludes that the integration of innovation and quality assurance under NEP 2020 is necessary to develop learner-centered, inclusive, and future-ready schools in India.
