Abstract

This review paper provides a relative analysis of lateral load-resisting systems in multi-storey buildings, specifically focusing on high-rise structural configuration. The study synthesizes findings from research Papers to evaluate the performance of shear wall systems, bracing systems, and moment-resisting frame systems under seismic and wind loading conditions. With the rising requirement for safe and efficient urban structures, understanding the behavior of different structural systems under lateral loads has become essential. The reviewed literature highlights that shear wall systems provide high stiffness and effectively reduce storey displacement and inter-storey drift, making them suitable for earthquake-prone regions. Bracing systems enhance energy dissipation and structural structural balance while offering economical advantages. In contrast, moment-resisting frames provide flexibility and architectural freedom but tend to exhibit higher lateral deformation. Several studies also emphasize the influence of soil–structure interaction and damping mechanisms on overall structural response.Furthermore, the review identifies key research gaps, including limited studies on combined vertical and plan irregularities, insufficient consideration of multi-hazard effects, and lack of system-level performance-based evaluation. These gaps indicate the need for comprehensive relative studies under uniform modeling conditions. This paper intends to provide a clear understanding of the advantages and limitations of different lateral load-resisting systems and to assist engineers in selecting appropriate structural configurations for UG+G+7 buildings. The findings contribute to improving structural safety, performance, and design efficiency.
