Abstract
The need to monitor the degree of comparative study of percentage removal of iron from water media contaminated with petrol motor spirit (PMS) and diesel (AGO) by the application of molded adsorbent in solid form. The adsorbent is made of clay soil with mixed of either of the agro-based materials listed, which include plantain Ogonic Red (POR), plantain Agbagba 1 (PA1) Banana Ogoni Red (BOR) and Banana Native (BN). The particle sizes of was used in the production of the adsorbent and the mix ratio of R5:5, R1:9, R2:8, R3:7 and R4:6, was obtained in combination of the various mixed ratio of different particle size of clay soil with the agro – based materials prepared. The performance of the effect of particle sizes and mixed ratio of each adsorbent was monitored after immersed in the contaminants environment for the removal of iron (Fe) from the various water media of fresh water and salt water medium. The efficiencies of the adsorbents were monitored with the rate of performance in terms of contaminants reduction in concentration. The research shows increase in AGO and PMS concentration in terms of percentages removal in the magnitude order of particle size of 1.18 mm> as well as the mix ratio of R1:9> R2:8> R4:6> R3:7> R5:5. The investigation further revealed that the performance of the adsorbent varies from water medium studied as well as the type of contaminant, in which the adsorbent was immersed in.
