Abstract
With rapid development, floating solar energy systems are now fast becoming sustainable and cutting edge solutions to problems posed by standard land-based solar energy installations. Utilizing less land with an increasing energy demand, particularly in highly populous areas, such water bodies become an effective alternative for solar power generation by floating solar installations. This study development, growth, and status of floating solar systems, with reference to their applicability and potential in India. It elaborates on the design and technical components of floating photovoltaic (FPV) systems, their environmental impacts, and the critical project success site selection criteria. Moreover, it analyses the comprehensive reservoir and surface water resources of India and their availability and potential suitability for floating solar implementation. It also mentions all critical challenges like technical issues, maintenance requirements, ecological effects, and economic viability. Here are cost benefit analyses as well as policy frameworks. With governmental initiatives for support, technological advancement, and increased investments in public-private partnership projects, floating solar energy is set to be an integral contributor towards clean energy transition in India. This review establishes the need for continued innovation, strategic planning, and regulatory development to maximize the benefits of floating solar systems across the renewable energy landscape of India
