Abstract
This paper explores the power quality challenges faced by distributed generation systems that are powered by renewable energy sources, e.g., wind and solar. It provides an in-depth examination of these power quality issues, starting with an overview and examination of basic standards. The research also explores power quality in power systems, specifically those connected to the electrical grid and renewable energy sources. It gives a comprehensive discussion of power quality monitoring techniques and proposes possible solutions to counteract the detected problems. Furthermore, the paper analyses the effectiveness of using D-STATCOM as a strategy for mitigating these issues in grid systems. For renewable energy sources, D-STATCOM is also emphasized as an option based on its multiple advantages, including fast response time, flexibility, and voltage regulation capability, whereas spinning reserve is recognized for its capability to enhance power quality in traditional systems by offering frequency and voltage stability during sudden load changes. The paper ends with the analysis of the outcomes obtained through the evaluation of the power quality improvement from the utilization of D-STATCOM, reinforcing its applicability and potential benefits in modern renewable-integrated grid infrastructures.
