Abstract

This study presents the development and characterization of a novel polymer-based modified endotracheal tube designed for retromolar intubation. The tube is manufactured using medical-grade polyvinyl chloride (PVC) with reinforced polymeric structures to enhance flexibility while maintaining lumen integrity. The incorporation of a preformed lateral curvature mitigates airway resistance and airflow reduction caused by manual bending, ensuring an optimal balance between rigidity and adaptability. Additionally, the integration of polymer-based ligature wires provides superior stabilization without compromising patient comfort, offering a more secure and ergonomic alternative to traditional stabilization methods. Further, the tube’s polymer composition is engineered for thermal resistance, ensuring stability at body temperature while preventing softening that could lead to lumen collapse. The incorporation of advanced polymer blends enhances the tube’s resistance to mechanical stress, allowing for prolonged use without significant deformation. This study discusses the material selection, mechanical properties, airflow dynamics, and biocompatibility, emphasizing the role of polymer chemistry in optimizing endotracheal tube performance and clinical outcomes.
