Abstract
This paper provides a comprehensive review of fiber-reinforced composites, focusing specifically on the utilization of metal-fiber composites in aerospace such as metal surface preparation prior to bonding, resin selection, and detailed examination of mechanical testing and impact studies. The significance of metal surface preparation for establishing strong bonding, which is a crucial initial step in composite fabrication, is discussed. Additionally, the prevalent use of epoxy resins and their importance in bonding metal fibers is highlighted. The mechanical strength of these composites is thoroughly assessed through a combination of tensile and flexural tests, providing insight into their structural integrity. The paper also provides a concise overview of low and high-velocity impact studies conducted on metal-fiber composites, offering valuable insights into material response under various impact conditions and real-world performance. Furthermore, it briefly explores the application of metal-fiber composites in armor and aerospace, emphasizing their role in achieving weight reduction while significantly improving stiffness and impact strength. This research paper presents a detailed exploration of metal-fiber composites in aerospace and defense applications.
