Reducing the use of natural resources is crucial to solving the global issue of CO2 emissions. Concrete can be produced sustainably by using recycled aggregates and geopolymer binders, which are environmentally benign alternatives to traditional components. Carbon footprints can be reduced by using these materials instead of ordinary Portland cement and natural aggregates. Among all the combinations, recycled coarse aggregates (RCA) and geopolymer concrete have garnered attention as a viable and sustainable approach. Compressive strength is still an important property of hardened concrete since it has a direct impact on the structure’s performance and quality. This paper highlights research on replacing natural aggregates in geopolymer concrete with recycled material, either completely or in part. It examines how they affect the properties of the material both while it is new and when it has hardened. Studies have frequently shown that adding recycled aggregates can improve the workability of geopolymer concrete because of its rough texture and angular shape, which increase paste-aggregate bonding. This enhancement is often accompanied by increased water absorption and sorptivity, which may affect long-term durability. In the end, despite the trade-offs, the careful use of recycled aggregates in geopolymer concrete provides a practical path towards environmentally friendly construction practices that are consistent with global goals to reduce material waste and carbon emissions.

Keywords: Recycled aggregate, geopolymer concrete, pozzolans, compressive strength, sodium hydroxide.
