Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the capability of a computer system to mimic human intelligence by performing tasks such as learning, reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making. As a rapidly evolving and emerging technology, AI holds the potential to transform a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, transportation, business, and notably, education. Its application in the educational domain is gaining momentum, aiming to create more efficient, engaging, and personalized learning environments. Incorporating AI into education paves the way for groundbreaking teaching approaches, personalized learning experiences, smart tutoring solutions, and decisions guided by data insights. The power of AI lies in its ability to process and analyze large volumes of educational data, uncovering hidden patterns and generating insights that were previously difficult to identify. These insights can be instrumental in developing new educational strategies, refining teaching practices, enhancing student engagement, and informing policymaking. AI can help predict student performance, tailor content delivery based on individual learning styles, and even automate administrative tasks to reduce workload on educators. This study aims to explore the growing necessity of AI in the education sector and the challenges associated with its effective implementation. It emphasizes the importance of preparing educators and institutions for the integration of AI tools and techniques, while also addressing ethical, infrastructural, and training-related concerns. Additionally, the study analyses the role of AI as envisioned in India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which advocates for the inclusion of modern technologies to enhance the quality of education. The research adopts a qualitative approach, reviewing a range of scholarly articles, reports, and policy documents related to AI in education.
