Abstract

A quad-band notched small monopole antenna with U-shaped slots and SRRs for UWB applications is presented in this study. The quadruple band-notched characteristics can be achieved by embedding three U-shaped slots on the radiation patch and two split ring resonators (SRRs) near feed line, respectively. It has a tiny size, only 17 mm23 mm0.508 mm. The experimental and measured results demonstrate that the proposed antenna offers an impedance bandwidth across an ultrawide frequency range from 3.1 to 10.8 GHz, with S11 less than –10 dB, except for the frequency bands of 3.27–3.7 GHz (World Interoperability for Microwave Access system), 3.8–4.8 GHz (C-band satellite communication system), 5.13–5.65 GHz (Wireless Local Area Network), and 7.9–8.5 GHz (International Telecommunications Union). The quadruple band notched antenna with three U-shaped slots on the radiation patch and two SRRs near the feed line are designed and implemented for suppressing intrusion from WiMAX, C-band satellite communication system, WLAN and ITU band. The proposed antenna, featuring rejected band characteristics, has been successfully simulated, prototyped, and tested. The simulated results align well with the measured performance, demonstrating good agreement. The miniaturized structure and good characteristics make the suggested antenna a good candidate for UWB applications.
