Abstract
In recent years, environmental pollution has become a pressing concern, prompting extensive research in aquatic ecotoxicology. With environmental degradation getting worse day by day, ecotoxicology research has gained a lot of attention. This area of study examines how biological communities in aquatic environments are affected by environmental contaminants. To unravel the toxicological mechanisms of these exogenous compounds, scientists turn to biological models. Several aquatic species, including zebrafish, toads, and big fleas, have been used as model organisms and developed for ecotoxicity assessment. The ability to integrate genetic, cellular, and whole organism endpoints, their tiny size, simple replication, minimal care costs, and short life cycle have made them increasingly desirable tools for researching the toxicity and bioaccumulation of environmental contaminants. Researchers selecting model animals for aquatic ecotoxicology studies might use this review as a guide. Zebrafish have been utilised as models in the field of aquatic ecotoxicology study. Its toxicity to environmental toxins is evaluated using phenotypic analysis, genetics, biomarkers, and developmental toxicity.
