Abstract
Cervical cancer continues to be a significant health concern for women globally, even though it can largely be prevented through timely screening, vaccination, and increased awareness. Adolescence represents an important stage for health education, as knowledge gained during this period can shape future health behaviors. This study was conducted to evaluate how effective a structured teaching program is in improving knowledge about cervical cancer among adolescent schoolgirls. The study had several objectives: to assess participants’ knowledge before the intervention, deliver a structured educational program, evaluate knowledge after the intervention, compare pretest and posttest results, and explore any relationship between knowledge levels and selected demographic factors. A quantitative approach was used, employing a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The research was carried out at SMK Memorial Public School in Sunari, Agra, involving 30 adolescent girls selected through purposive sampling. Data collection was done using structured questionnaires administered both before and after the teaching session.
The results showed that prior to the intervention, 23.3% of the participants had low knowledge, while 76.6% demonstrated a moderate level of understanding. Following the teaching program, 56.6% of the students had moderate knowledge, and 43.3% reached a good level of understanding. The comparison between pretest and posttest scores revealed a noticeable improvement in awareness and comprehension of cervical cancer. In conclusion, the structured teaching program proved to be effective in enhancing knowledge among adolescent girls. The findings highlight the importance of incorporating regular health education programs in schools to foster early awareness and encourage preventive health practices.
