The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) in pharmaceutical research [in drug discovery] is a revolution in pharmaceutical research, often combining computational methods with traditional research methods to solve problems. This review article describes various applications of AI at various stages of drug development and highlights significant advances and approaches. He explores the critical role of intelligence in drug design, polypharmacology, drug synthesis, drug repurposing, and prediction of drug properties such as toxicity, biological activity, and physicochemical properties. Although the progress in AI is encouraging, this article also addresses the challenges and limitations facing the field, including data quality, performance, computational capability of theory, and ethical reasoning. Providing a broad overview of the role of AI in drug discovery, this article highlights the potential of this technology to improve drug development while also acknowledging the challenges that must be overcome to achieve its results.

Keywords: three-dimensional (3D), drug-protein interactions (DPIs), artificial intelligence (AI), variational autoencoders (VAEs)
