Abstract
The application of the grape leaf in the treatment of petroleum hydrocarbon degradation in soil environment in investigated and the findings outline with respect to the performance of the bio-stimulant available nutrients associated with. The research reveals increase in TPH degradation in each bioreactor sampled with the room and sun-dried bio-stimulant application in the system with increase in the period of contact time. The rates in which the TPH decreases can be attributed to the high efficiency of the bio-stimulant used in carrying out this investigation. However, the variation in the TPH degradation by comparison of the bio-stimulant subjected int room-dried and sun-dried was not much, because the variation in nutrients upon the effect of sunlight does not cause any inhibiting effect on the crude oil remediation process. Rapid remediation was experienced with the application of 100g dosage of room-dried sample of the bio-stimulan compared to the 50g dosage and this revealed that the more the concentration of the bio-stmulant the more the available nutrient for microbial utilization and the more the growth rate of the microbes will increase as well. This has demonstrated the usefulness of grape leaf as an excellence bio-stimulant recommended for restoring a contaminated soil environment. The characteristics of the sun-dried bio-stimulant prepared through the concepts of subjecting the grape leaf into sunlight is to ascertain the impact of sunlight on the depletion of the available nutrients of the grape leaf and recommend the best method of preparing the bio-stimulant for bioremediation application.
