About Me
Scientist-B in Department of Medical Laboratory Technology at
Indira Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute (IGMC&RI), Puducherry., Puducherry, India
My expertise are Medical Microbiology
Dr. Mailan Natarajan is a Scientist-B at the Virus Research and
Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL), Department of Microbiology, Indira
Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute (IGMC&RI),
Puducherry. He completed his undergraduate degree, postgraduate
degree (Batch Topper), and Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology from
JIPMER, Puducherry. With over six years of experience in diagnostic
microbiology, molecular epidemiology, infectious disease surveillance, and public health
laboratory services, he has contributed significantly to strengthening diagnostic and
surveillance capacities in Puducherry, including COVID-19 laboratory services during the
pandemic. His research interests include molecular diagnostics, antimicrobial resistance, viral
genomics, next-generation sequencing, and emerging infectious diseases. He has hands-on
experience in next-generation sequencing (NGS) using the Illumina MiSeq platform, including
whole-genome sequencing and genomic analysis of SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza viruses for
surveillance and molecular epidemiology studies. He has received several awards and
recognitions for his research contributions and has authored multiple peer-reviewed
publications in reputed national and international journals.
