Abstract

This project introduces a software-based Smart Digital Trolley System designed to enhance the shopping and billing experience in supermarkets by minimizing waiting time at checkout counters. In many retail stores, conventional billing methods often result in long queues, customer inconvenience, and delays during peak shopping hours. To address these challenges, the proposed system offers a digital and user-friendly solution that streamlines the entire purchasing process without relying on additional hardware components such as RFID tags, sensors, or IoT devices. The system enables customers to create an account, log in securely, browse available products, view product details, and add selected items to a virtual shopping cart through an interactive web interface. The cart is updated dynamically, allowing users to monitor their selected items and total purchase amount in real time. Once shopping is completed, the system automatically generates a bill and provides a QR code-based payment option, enabling fast, secure, and contactless transactions. This approach reduces manual intervention and significantly decreases the time required for checkout. The application is developed using the MERN stack, which includes MongoDB for database management, Express.js and Node.js for backend operations, and React.js for creating a responsive and engaging user interface. The technology stack ensures efficient data processing, seamless communication between system components, and reliable performance. By integrating digital cart management and QR code billing into a single platform, the proposed Smart Digital Trolley System offers a practical, scalable, and cost-effective solution for modern retail environments while improving customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
