Abstract

This paper represents the failure analysis of composite symmetric and antisymmetric laminate, when laminates were subjected to the transverse loading conditions. The load is uniformly distributed in a transverse direction. The analysis includes failure load and nature of failure by using theories of failure. The ply degradation material model is used to modify and update the properties of failed lamina and upgrades the properties of laminate. Laminate is modelled as an eight node on an isoperimetric plate with its every node has eight degrees of freedom. Initially, the ply failure load is compared with failure load from available researched literature carried out by various researchers and techno-enthusiasm. The different failure theories have been compared for the results such as ply failure load, maximum load sustaining capacity of ply and nature of failure of the ply, etc. to ensure the accuracy of result. The behaviour of antisymmetric and symmetric laminates is subjected to loading and applied boundary conditions are depicted. The laminate is considered as a beam which is simply supported and clamped to its ends. The findings contribute to the understanding of progressive failure mechanisms in polymer-matrix fibre-reinforced composite laminates, supporting the reliable design and structural application of advanced polymer composite materials. The stacking sequence and corresponding strength have been highlighted in this study.
