Abstract

For the sake of communal welfare and gender equality, women’s health must be improved. The end of reproductive life is marked by menopause, which usually happens between the ages of 45 and 55 and is impacted by lifestyle, environmental, and genetic variables. Social injustices, poor diet, and reproductive stressors are associated with early menopause (before 45), which raises the risk of osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and cognitive decline. Decreases in hormones, particularly estrogen, lead to musculoskeletal degeneration, mood swings, metabolic alterations, and vasomotor symptoms. The Etiology, pathophysiology, and management of menopause are examined from allopathic, Ayurvedic, Unani, herbal, and homeopathic viewpoints in this review, which is based on research conducted between 2000 and 2020. According to Ayurveda, menopause (Rajonivritti) is a normal shift from Pitta to Vata dominance, marked by hormonal imbalance and Dhatukshaya (tissue depletion). Shatavari, Ashwagandha, Brahmi, and Yasthimadhu are among the phytoestrogen-rich herbal treatments that help reduce symptoms, balance hormones, and support mental and physical health. Although it has hazards like cancer, thrombosis, and hypertension, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is nevertheless an effective allopathic choice. Safer, more comprehensive options include non-hormonal therapies, dietary changes, yoga, meditation, and lifestyle adjustments. Menopausal problems can be decreased and quality of life improved by combining current and traditional remedies with patient education and psychological support.
